More efficient and effective operations for a waste processing company

Situation

A waste processing company manages residual waste from municipalities and businesses. The company extracts as many valuable materials as possible from the waste. What remains is efficiently incinerated, generating electricity and heat for households and businesses.

The incineration process releases substances that must not enter the environment. The company utilises an evaporation system to purify ammonia from the wastewater. However, this system incurs high maintenance costs and represents a bottleneck in the wastewater treatment capacity.

Solution

The waste processing company enlisted KH Engineering to design an upgrade for their wastewater treatment plant. Replacing the evaporators with a steam stripping column is a key part of this upgrade. One of the evaporators has already been replaced with a stripping column. KH Engineering determined the requirements for this replacement and identified the necessary piping routes.

The modifications are carried out during scheduled production stops. Minor adjustments are implemented during regular stops, while more extensive changes take place during a major shutdown held every two years. KH Engineering contributes by providing detailed planning and coordination. Additionally, KH Engineering is exploring ways to reduce CO2 emissions during the neutralisation of flue gases.

Customer benefits

The upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant enables the waste processing company to increase capacity, reduce costs, and achieve lower emission threshold values. KH Engineering thus contributes to more efficient and effective operations.

Advantage of working with KH Engineering

By collaborating with KH Engineering, the waste processing company gained access to expertise in industrial installations and purification processes. KH Engineering meticulously mapped and documented all piping and equipment. Furthermore, KH Engineering managed communication with contractors, facilitated the necessary work permits, and handled time tracking.

Throughout the project, KH Engineering acted as an extension of the waste processing company, fostering a close partnership where employees from both organisations regarded each other as colleagues. By combining the expertise of both parties, a solid foundation was established for the successful execution of the project.
