Green hydrogen plants for HyCC
HyCC develops green hydrogen projects to make the industry more sustainable and to build a circular economy. Six projects are now under development, including one in Germany and five in the Netherlands. The latter includes two in Delfzijl, two in the North Sea Canal area near Amsterdam, and in Rotterdam they have the H2-Fifty project on Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte.
The so-called conversion park on the Maasvlakte will be the place to be in the Rotterdam region when it comes to bringing green electricity from wind-on-sea to land to produce green hydrogen locally. H2-Fifty is a collaboration with bp and will be a 250-megawatt plant. HyCC itself has broad and deep knowledge of electrolysis technology in-house. But for the design and construction of the plants, they were looking for a reliable and knowledgeable engineering firm, as an extension of their own team.
Solution
After an extensive market survey and a tender, HyCC chose KH Engineering to provide support throughout the construction process of the first projects (the factories in Rotterdam and Amsterdam). In doing so, HyCC opted for support from concept engineering to managing the execution of the project. In terms of experience and expertise, they found KH Engineering to be a good match.
Customer benefit
With the new hydrogen plants, HyCC is taking a crucial step towards making the Dutch industry more sustainable. The company sees green hydrogen as the key to providing a growing population with essential products without CO2 emissions.
In this way, they contribute to more sustainable economic development. With the Rotterdam H2-Fifty plant alone, HyCC and bp will produce as much as 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen a year from renewable energy and water.
Advantage of working with KH Engineering
In KH Engineering, HyCC says it found a party that complements them well in terms of technical knowledge. Together with KH Engineering, HyCC can scale up quickly, which is important to them. It will be a real partnership in which KH Engineering will perform very diverse work: from concept studies to front-end engineering design and supervising contractors’ work. KH Engineering will also assist in drawing up HyCC’s technical standards. These will specify the requirements that a green hydrogen plant of HyCC must meet, on top of the legal requirements. This will enable HyCC to use the design efficiently at other sites.
